No matter how long you’ve been an Adventist Christian, or whether you know little about the Seventh-day Adventist church, you may have wondered about the meaning of the “three angels” that are often used in connection with our ministries.

These messages, found in the heart of the book of Revelation, sum up three important warnings that need to be given to the world in the last days. Found in Revelation 14:6-12, they are essentially…

  1. a plea to worship God as Creator and Judge (recognizing the seventh-day Sabbath and His soon-coming Day of Judgment)
  2. a declaration that Babylon is fallen (confusing, false religious systems which value tradition more than teachings of the Bible)
  3. an urgent warning against worshiping the image of the beast and receiving its mark (because civil laws will eventually demand worship that is contrary to God’s holy Ten Commandments—Revelation 13:11-18)
      • P.S. If you have questions about the “smoke and torment” described in this third message, see this article about the punishment of the wicked:

Basically, these three messages tell us that God is for us, Satan is against us, and we have a choice to make regarding worship.

When Jesus went back to heaven after His resurrection, He began a work of intercession, pleading for us in the Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary (Hebrews 7:25, 8:1-2). But now, His ministry has moved into the Most Holy Place in heaven, where an investigative judgment is taking place. The Old Testament tells of a cleansing of the sanctuary that must take place before the Day of Atonement, or Day of Judgment (called Yom Kippur). See Leviticus 16.

That’s why “judgment is come” is mentioned in the first angel’s message, alerting us to the nearness of Christ’s return and how heaven is getting ready for it. More about this investigative judgment is found here:

The very name, Seventh-day Adventist, contains the heart and uniqueness of our message, especially that of the first angel. We believe in the Sabbath of Creation and the Second Coming, or Advent, of Jesus.

So, let’s not be like the Laodicean church found in Revelation 3:15-16, 19. We must stop being lukewarm by repenting and then being more zealous to share these three angels’ messages with the world!
